Post-Infective IBS

One form of IBS is called post-infectious IBS, with the onset of IBS occurring after a stomach or bowel infection, otherwise known as gastroenteritis. Approximately 25% of IBS patients note that their symptoms began after an infection. It is not clear why this is the case, although changes to a person’s normal gut bacteria, the gut nervous system or a low grade inflammation have been suggested.
